Escapade Games: Zoe review
So you want a real life adventure? Ready for an adrenaline shot? It’s time for you to try our horror escape room and become acquainted with little ZOE! There’s one scene in your mind that is busily following you. It initially appeared in your dreams, the scene of an abandoned house, but it has started chasing you during the daytime. This house seems to be calling for you, it attracts you with an unknown force. What’s wrong with it? Is there anyone living there? One day you stumble upon the house, open the door and… become trapped. You have only one hour to escape until your personality starts to change.
$36-45 per person depending on time and team size
Fullerton, California, USA
Played by Daiman and Jenny
Escaped with 15 minutes remaining
8/10It’s a house with multiple rooms so it’s not amazing in that sense. However, some rooms are more interesting than others, revealing the story in fun ways. For me though, the theming is fantastic due to the inclusion of live actors who get very close and personal with you! You’ll believe this is real simply due to the fact that you are constantly pursued by supernatural beings!
9/10From the moment you enter the waiting area you are already facing the imminent feel of Zoe, with the spooky music and all the little girl paraphernalia lying around. The wait for the game is pretty intense and builds the tension nicely before you enter the room. When it was time we entered the room in blindfolds and whilst we were given the briefing we could feel a strangers touch on our faces. Once the game started we took our blindfolds off and were stood in a dark living room which was decorated quite creepily. The music in the room was also intense. Once you move through the different stages the intensity increases with visits from live actors. They played their part well and scared the crap out of you! Each room was linked well to the demise of poor Zoe with each stage getting more darker than the last. The game also had a pretty epic finale.
7/10The game itself is extremely simplistic but that’s beside the point here! If the game was too tough it’d probably be impossible due to the presence of malevolent characters. The puzzles were fun though, we usually got the ‘a-ha’ moment after 2/3 minutes – for a litmus, we escaped with about 15 mins left on the clock as a two with the distraction of being actively hunted down. It’s another one of those games that you play for the experience rather than sole gameplay.
7/10This game is not really about the game play but more about the ‘scare factor’. There were few puzzles in the room which were logical but weighed more to the easy side. That being said the puzzles all linked to the theme and were made harder to concentrate on due to the visits from the live actors.
10/10What can I say? Could I have enjoyed this any more than I did? Doubtful! We were chased, grabbed and ambushed constantly throughout and it got to a point where it was easy to forget we were playing a game! If you’re easily scared, leave well alone though! For anyone else, this is just an amazing time, straight up.
10/10I really loved this game. The fear element added to the adrenaline of the play brilliantly. I’ve not played a game with this much intensity since Butcher by Escapologic. I also haven’t stopped laughing about my falling out of a hole due to me running with too much haste to get away from the live actor. Whilst this game may not be great for the faint-hearted, the horror fans will love this one!
9/10For a game that had live actors and a level of immersion that we rarely experience, I can’t really fault the price of this game! That said, $40 is in the higher end of prices that we’ve paid this trip… I just wish we were there in time to play their new game!
8/10At $40 each this game is a little expensive, however it’s totally worth the money. There’s not many games where you get this level of intensity and the inclusion of live actors. We were also lucky to have played this game on our own without any other players. The host was also really passionate and topped the experience for me. I highly recommend this game to everyone!
